Channel 4’s cyber-thriller “The Undeclared War” is set to return for a second series, with Simon Pegg reprising his role as GCHQ’s Director of Operations and “Blue Lights” star Sian Brooke joining the cast as his ex-MI6 wife.
Set in 2024, the six-part series continues to explore the high-stakes world of cyber warfare as GCHQ’s Malware Department faces new challenges in the aftermath of a devastating Russian cyber-attack. The plot thickens when Danny Patrick (Pegg) and his team uncover an even more dangerous threat than before.
Hannah Khalique-Brown returns as Saara Parvin, the gifted young coder, alongside Alex Jennings as GCHQ Director David Neal. The series introduces new tension with Chloe Pirrie joining as Lt Colonel Roz Cavendish, whose appointment as Director of Rapid Response creates friction with Pegg’s character.
Written by Colin Teevan (“Das Boot”) and directed by Paul McGuigan (“Sherlock”), the new series promises to deliver more of the painstakingly researched, cutting-edge cyber warfare drama that defined its first season. Channel 4’s Drama Director Ollie Madden describes it as “riveting, unpredictable” and “unmissable.”
The production team includes Emmy, BAFTA, and Golden Globe-winning Playground Entertainment, alongside Stonehenge Films and Universal International Studios. Series co-creator Colin Callender emphasizes how the new season “raises the stakes as it explores the ever-increasing complexities of a world where technology and humanity collide.”
Ed Stoppard also returns as Foreign Secretary Richard Marston, continuing his antagonistic relationship with Danny, while Danny Sapani reprises his role as Head of Security Charlie Francis.
The series will be distributed internationally by NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution, with air dates to be announced.
