New Documentary to Chronicle Birmingham City FC’s Promotion Journey

A new behind-the-scenes documentary series following Birmingham City Football Club’s promotion to the Championship will launch worldwide on Prime Video in Summer 2025.

The untitled series has captured the club’s transformative 2024-25 season, with camera crews embedded with players, coaching staff, and key ownership figures throughout the campaign. The documentary will provide unprecedented access to Birmingham City’s Chairman Tom Wagner, Co-Founder of Knighthead Capital Management, and minority owner Tom Brady, the American football legend who joined the club in 2023.

Beyond match footage and training ground access, the series aims to explore Birmingham City’s cultural heritage and loyal fanbase who have remained dedicated despite years without success. The documentary will highlight how the club plans to drive community resurgence alongside sporting achievements.

“Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight, a lifelong Birmingham City supporter, will serve as executive producer, bringing his storytelling expertise and deep connection to the club. Matt Alvarez, known for producing “Straight Outta Compton,” will also executive produce. The project was conceived by Tom Brady and Religion of Sports co-founder Gotham Chopra following Brady’s investment in the club.

The series will be co-directed by Chopra and Claudia Corbisiero, who previously directed “Sven,” and produced by Religion of Sports and Whisper. The production companies have an impressive portfolio of sports documentaries, including “Rodgers: Enigma,” “Ben Stokes: Phoenix from the Ashes,” and “Kobe Bryant’s Muse.”

This documentary joins Prime Video’s growing collection of exclusive sports content, which includes “All or Nothing: Arsenal,” “Doubters to Believers Liverpool FC: Klopp’s Era,” and “We Are Newcastle United.” The platform continues to expand its sports offerings, with live UEFA Champions League football in the UK, NFL Thursday Night Football in the US, and soon, NBA coverage globally.

The series promises to deliver a cinematic perspective on Birmingham City’s journey back to the Championship after their successful promotion campaign, documenting both the on-field battles and off-field transformation under new ownership.
