‘Ted Lasso’ Set for Surprise Fourth Season Return as Sudeikis Signs On

In a development certain to delight fans across the world, Apple TV+ has officially confirmed that “Ted Lasso” will return for a fourth season, with Jason Sudeikis reprising his role as the folksy American football coach who captured British hearts.

The announcement ends months of speculation following the third season, which many industry insiders had believed would mark the conclusion of the award-winning series. Filmed primarily in London and Richmond, the show has become a cultural phenomenon on both sides of the Atlantic.

Sudeikis, who won multiple Emmy Awards for his portrayal of the relentlessly optimistic coach, hinted at the thematic direction of the new season: “In season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”

The programme’s renewal represents a significant commitment from Apple TV+, with Matt Cherniss, head of programming, describing “Ted Lasso” as “nothing short of a juggernaut” that has succeeded in “delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion and unwavering belief.”

Emmy Award winner Jack Burditt, known for his work on “Modern Family” and “30 Rock,” joins the production team as an executive producer. Meanwhile, fan-favourite Brendan Hunt is expected to return both behind the camera as executive producer and on screen as Coach Beard.

Brett Goldstein, the Kent-born actor and writer who won hearts as the gruff Roy Kent, will continue his dual role as writer and executive producer for the new season.

The series has been a critical darling since its 2020 debut, becoming the first comedy to win the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series in both its first and second seasons. Its portrayal of British football culture through an American lens has resonated particularly strongly with UK audiences, who have embraced the show’s warmth and wit.

Production dates have not yet been announced, but industry sources suggest filming could begin in London later this year. For devoted fans of AFC Richmond, the wait for Ted’s return to the dugout may be shorter than expected.
