Production has begun on the third series of ITV’s high-stakes drama “Trigger Point,” with Vicky McClure returning as bomb disposal expert Lana Washington. The series, produced by Jed Mercurio’s HTM Television, follows the dangerous work of London’s bomb disposal officers (Expos) as they protect the capital from explosive threats.
The announcement follows the success of the show’s second series, which averaged 8.1 million viewers and garnered 30 million streams on ITVX in 2024, making it ITV1’s second most-watched drama of the year behind “Mr Bates vs The Post Office.”
The new six-episode series will feature a fresh storyline centered on a sinister vendetta, with the Bomb Disposal Squad racing against time to stop a bomber targeting specific individuals. McClure will be joined by returning cast members Eric Shango, Nabil Elouahabi, Natalie Simpson, and Maanuv Thiara, with Jason Flemyng joining as a guest star.
“Trigger Point is back! We’re all so excited to get going,” said McClure. “Having had such a positive response to the previous two series, we want to make this new series even more exciting, keep everyone on the edge of their seats whilst getting to know even more about the brilliant characters in the show.”
The third series will be led by writer Chris Brandon (“Bloodlands”) and directed by Jamie Donoghue (“Doctor Who”) and Audrey Cooke (“DI Ray”). Executive producers include Jed Mercurio, known for “Line of Duty” and “Breathtaking,” alongside Daniel Walker, Jessica Sharkey, Chris Brandon, and McClure herself.
The first two series of “Trigger Point” are currently available on ITVX, with the new series set to air on ITV1 and STV, and stream on ITVX and STV Player. The show continues to be distributed internationally through All3Media International.
