Channel 4’s hit comedy “Big Mood” is set to return for a second series, with Nicola Coughlan and Lydia West reprising their roles as Maggie and Eddie. The announcement follows the show’s success as Channel 4’s biggest new comedy launch since “Derry Girls.”
The new series, written by creator Camilla Whitehill, picks up one year after the events of season one, with the formerly inseparable best friends having had no contact. The story takes a new turn when Eddie returns for a wedding, accompanied by Whitney, a spiritual healer whose presence threatens Maggie’s place in Eddie’s life.
“I had no plan B and zero transferable skills so I am overjoyed to be bringing Big Mood back for another round!” jokes Whitehill. “Discovering that there are actually loads of weirdos who like the same weirdo stuff as me has been a real privilege.”
Coughlan, known for “Bridgerton” and “Derry Girls,” expressed her excitement about returning: “It’s been one of the greatest joys of my life making it, and I’m beyond delighted that we get to come back and tell the next chapter of Maggie and Eddie’s story. Rats at the ready.”
Her co-star Lydia West, fresh from “It’s A Sin” and “Inside Man,” added enthusiasm for reuniting with the cast and returning to “the world of Eggie!”
The series will be produced by Dancing Ledge Productions, with Rebecca Asher returning to direct. The first series is currently streaming on Channel 4 in the UK and Tubi in the US and Canada, with transmission details for the new season to be announced.
The renewal demonstrates Channel 4’s commitment to fresh comedy, with Head of Comedy Charlie Perkins praising the show’s “zeitgeisty Buddy-Comedy” appeal and the “excellent central performances” of its stars.
